Education Standards Likely to See Toughening

Education Secretary Arne Duncan said the administration was “laying the foundation for where we want to go” with the No Child Left Behind reauthorization.

WASHINGTON — President Obama and his team have alternated praise for the goals of President George W. Bush’s No Child Left Behind law with criticism of its weaknesses, all the while keeping their own plans for the law a bit of a mystery.

Toughen? How can schools get tougher when nobody fails Everyday Math, yet hardly anyone goes beyond Core Plus or Discovering Algebra? What's the menu for reform math? Baloney and crackers?

Its doubtful Obama is going to improve education. Birsin got rehired just when San Diego thought they'd be rid of him. He left San Diego City Schools in shambles.
