I'm not sure of Devlin's point - skills? or concepts? is a red herring - the textbooks should be replaced with one excellent series of textbooks that is in line with Singapore - this is not terribly difficult. Curriculum development in the US is fakery.
If this is the MAA's response to us math reform then they haven't got a clue - Devlin might as well be talking to himself. Maybe Warfield whispered something to him. Devlin has a book - Life by the Numbers - so what - he doesn't have anything to do with education. Rational math can go get plugged.
