If we could understand the motives behind these board members, who voted for Discovering et al then I would say the process was transparent. However, making themselves into idiots should not be used as a defense. Its good to see parents getting roiled by all this. I was very bothered that teachers weren't.
The difficulty with public opinion that the reform movement is having, is not new to their cause. We are going on two decades of this nonsense and the public is still not convinced. School board members behave like zombies. Once they have voted, they rest their case - "I have voted and that's all I'm going to say about the matter." If a board member behaves irrationally, they should be accountable. This is far worse than ignoring one's social responsibility - it serves not even for the greater good of Seattle.
