Out of the trenches where the real work is done
comes a message from Bob:
good riddance terryb.
trying to stay 'positive', whatever kind of sugary pap that means, I say to people --
I applaud their efforts to try something new,
I applaud their efforts because they worked really hard,
HOWEVER
The results were a disaster for our kids,
and their response was to blame teachers for NOT implementing unproven practices.
While some of these practices could be good supplements, they are NOT the cure alls the philosophy turned ideology and turned dogma promised.
I can NOT applaud their efforts in digging in their heels AND I OPPOSE
their efforts blaming those of us doing the job 50++++ hours a week OUT IN REALITY.
bob.
p.s. back to our normal programming - GOOD RIDDANCE.
A mere headchopping. Slaying a Hydra is like hunting for terrorists.

ReplyDeleteSometimes I try to not rock the boat by attempting the ‘positive’ thing. The 'positive' thing is a critical requirement to keep the seasame street / teletubby non-critical-thinking happy happy political lites from hiding behind their pathetic labels like angry, negative, bitter, cynical ...
yawn. So, to attempt to fit in with the hand wringers, I say about terryb —
I applaud the efforts to try something new,
I applaud the hard work,
HOWEVER
The results were a disaster and ARE a disaster for our kids.
The response to the disaster has been for theoretical trainers to blame real teachers for NOT implementing theoretical cure all teaching practices turned ideology.
While some of their practices are definitely good supplements to good teaching,
the practices are NOT the cure alls promised by the theoretical philosophy turned ideology and philosophy turned dogma.
I can NOT applaud their REAL efforts of digging in their heels to protect their REAL jobs making failure,
AND I OPPOSE
their efforts blaming those of us doing the REAL job 50++++ hours a week OUT IN REALITY.

Not all work in math should be applauded. Schools should not be required to test all their students. Entrance exams are more effective than exit exams, because colleges set standards and most schools cannot afford to be selective.
ReplyDeleteBut by the same token, all students should use the same curriculum. And then you supplement to enrich standards, not replace curriculum.
If you had all students using the same curriculum, then I would favor using end of course exams.
