NAEP Science results (credibility?)

The new NAEP science scores just released, and there is a big problem with credibility of the results.

Very simply, it looks like the proficiency rates could be seriously inflated, which is very unlike the situation for NAEP math and reading. Learn about this in more detail here:

So what else is new.

The state-level proficiency tests are only for "public consumption". Politicians know what the public's comfort level is. They do not want to upset the public with too much bad news. Is it any wonder why there is a huge discrepancy between the the state tests and the gold-standard NAEP?

Note is you carefully examine the NAEP it could be a lot better. Note the link is to the recent NAEP science test which looks more like fool's gold.

Oops!

I just read the headline and saw the mention with the state proficiency results in the second sentence and saw the phrase "proficiency rates ... seriously inflated" and thought, "Here we go again!"

Guess I should have read the link instead of assuming what it was going to say.

Anyhow, I'm obviously not a big fan of the state proficiency tests, and rightly so.

I'm wondering whether the NAEP has not supposed that vast numbers of students will soon be compelled to seek their livelihood by begging, robbing, stealing, cheating, pimping, forswearing, flattering, suborning, forging, gaming, lying, fawning, hectoring, voting, scribbling, stargazing, poisoning, whoring, canting, libelling, free-thinking and other like occupations.

At present, public education for the majority is a perpetual state of carnival, a mirror complement of normal society that will eventually consume it.

Teachers have invented eighty words for standards; yet none for learning.

The school board held that all the world's a cheat, and therefore they were a worse fool for not having some hand in it.
