Conclusion of Report 3-11-2009 ST to SBE

Here is the conclusion from Strategic Teachings report of 3-11-09 to the SBE:

CONCLUSION

From
 the
 perspective
 of
 mathematical
 soundness,
 none
 of
 the
 reviewed
 programs
were
 completely
satisfactory.

Holt was
 the
 strongest
 of
 the
 four,
 meaning
 the
 mathematics
 is
 not
 compromised
 in
 any
 of
 the
 three
 topics
 examined.

Discovering
 was
 the
 weakest
 with
 all
 three
 areas
 considered
 inadequate.

CorePlus and
 Glencoe were
 about
 the
same
 and
between
the
other
 two.

The
good
 news
 is
that
there
are
 other
programs
that
match
well
to
Washington’s
 standards.
 Although
resources are scarce now, there are other programs available
 for
Washington to investigate with respect to their mathematical soundness
in
 the
future.

The next two highest ranked programs from OSPI are Prentice Hall and McDougall-Littell

The SBE will use this report at their meeting toward the end of this week in Tumwater.

Obama tells students, "Educate yourselves."

Our school system might be crap, but you need an education.

Hey Obama:
My kids are on independent study and I'm paying $40 per day for a private tutor. Your school system sucks.

My kid has a physical disability (missing a hand), won't go to school (hates it). Social security says she doesn't have a problem. Where's the equity? I don't get it.
